Proper use of ZELEX
- Shake the container well before each use.
- Regular use is required to obtain full therapeutic benefit.
- Importance of not using more medication than the amount prescribed.
- Avoid spraying this medication in your eyes.
- Before use, blowing your nose to clear nasal passages before administration.
- Use the missed dose as soon as you remember. Skip the missed dose if it is almost time for your next scheduled dose. Do not use extra medicine to make up the missed dose.
- To use the spray, first remove the safety clip and plastic cap. Close one nostril by pressing it with your finger. Tilt your head slightly forward and, keeping the bottle upright, carefully insert the nasal applicator into the other nostril. Press down firmly on the pump to deliver the prescribed number of sprays. Do not spray directly onto the middle wall of your nose (nasal septum). Breathe in gently through your nose and out through your mouth. Repeat in the other nostril. Wipe the applicator tip and replace the plastic cap and safety clip.
Note: Before you use the spray for the first time, hold the spray away from your eyes and place your fingers each side of the nozzle. Press down a few times until you can see a fine mist in the air. If the nasal spray hasn't been used for a few days you should reprime it in this way before using it again.
Dosage and administration
- Adults and Children aged 6 years and older
One application in each nostril twice daily (The drug lasts about 12 hours, mornings and evenings)
Mechanism of action:
H1-receptor antagonist; inhibits release of histamine and other mediators involved in allergic response
Pregnancy and Breast-feeding
Pregnancy category: C
Lactation: Zelex Nasal Spray should not be used by nursing mothers, because there is insufficient evidence of the safety of this medicinal product during lactation.
WARNING AND PRECAUTIONS:
Not to be used in patients with known hypersensitivity to azelastine hydrochloride or any of the ingredients of zelex Nasal Spray, nor in children under 6 years of age.
